Frequently asked questions
How ComponentNews works, where the numbers come from, and how to get the most out of it.
What is ComponentNews?
A daily intelligence report on the electronic-components market, written for brokers, buyers and procurement teams. It covers shortages and allocations, lead times, EOL and last-time-buy notices, freight rates, raw-material and fuel prices, currency moves and supply-chain risk.
Who is it for?
Anyone who buys, sells or plans around electronic components: independent distributors and brokers, OEM and EMS procurement teams, and supply-chain planners who need a quick morning read on what changed.
When is it published?
A daily recap is published early every morning and covers the previous day’s news; the emailed brief goes out on weekdays. On Sundays the week’s dailies are rolled up into a weekly report that adds shipping, currency, raw-material and shortage tables.
Where does the information come from?
From 80+ named sources: freight indices and shipping press, semiconductor and component trade press, manufacturer newsrooms and product-change pages, government and trade-policy publications, and commodity price services. The full source list is on the About & methodology page.
How do you make sure it’s accurate?
Every factual claim must cite a dated source. An automated fact-checker opens each cited URL and checks that it loads and was published inside the reporting window. Sources that fail are replaced with one that covers the same event. Wikipedia, social media and undated pages are not accepted.
How far back does the archive go?
Back to 2009. Choose a year in the Archive panel on the report page and pick a report. Coverage of the earliest years is still being filled in and is most complete from 2017 onward.
What do the sparklines in Freight Lanes and Market Snapshot show?
Each line is the weekly history of that lane or price. The card title shows how much time the lines cover, for example “(6 months)”. Hover a line to see the value for a given week and the change from the week before. A dashed segment means some weeks are missing from the archive, so that step is not week over week.
Can I share a specific report or section?
Yes. Every report has its own permanent link (?report=YYYY-MM-DD), and each section has a LINK button that copies a link straight to that section of that report.
How do I get it by email?
Enter your address under “Get the daily brief” on the report page or the Contact page. We email you a confirmation link first, and you’re only added to the list once you click it. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Does it cost anything?
Reading the site is free. There’s nothing to sign up for to view reports or the archive.
Who publishes ComponentNews?
Devion LLC, the team behind ComponentCRM, a CRM built for electronic-component brokers. The “Request Demo” button is for ComponentCRM.
I spotted an error, or have a source to suggest. How do I tell you?
Use the Contact page. Mention the report date and section so we can find it quickly.
